Overview

Science Content:

Describe the properties of light and sound.

Organize and evaluate observation, measurement and other data to formulate inferences and conclusions.

Use results from investigations to provide evidence to support explanations and conclusions.

Estimated Time: 2 1/2 hours or 5 30-minute lessons

During this lesson students will explore and summarize observations of the transmission, refraction and reflection of light through stations. Students will work as a group to explore and explain their findings.

Part 1: Before the stations a pre-assessment will be completed for students to write what they know about reflection, transmission and refraction.

Part 2: Stations- Students will work as a group to complete a Task Card at the station and explore a concept about light. Once they have explored they will read the explanation provided and compare and discuss findings. Finally they will have a discussion about their observations and write a summary of their understanding from the activities.

Part 3: After all stations are complete the students will use their understanding to develop a Concept Map for Light
