Estimated Time: Part 1- 1 hour  Part 2- 30 minutes

During this lesson students will use a model of a water supply and city to simulate the effects of water pollution and explain how it impacts the each body of water as well as brainstorm a solution. Then the polluted water will be used to develop a plan to clean the water.

Part 1: Students will sit around a large model of a city and read situation cards in small groups and carry out the procedures to pollute the water sources. Throughout this simulation, students will use a journal to record cause and effect of the pollution scenarios and a possible solution. Once all scenarios are read the class will discuss cumulative problems and how this impacts the city.

Part 2: Using the polluted water, students will work in a small group with a set of materials to plan and create a method to clean the water. They will share and discuss the results of their investigation as a class.
