Overview

Science Content:

Earth's resources can be used for energy.

Renewable energy resources, such as wind, water or solar energy, can be replenished within a short amount of time by natural processes.

Estimated Time: 1 class period

Analyze maps and graphics of the US, Ohio and local area (e.g. solar and wind speed maps of the US/Ohio, land maps/Google Earth of county). Using the collected data, determine what types(s) of renewable energy are most suitable for the area. Examples to consider might be areas with wind currents for wind power such as open plains areas or near open water where there are strong winds, water sources such as moving water in rivers or strong currents for hydropower stations/water turbines, or weather/climate in which there is a lot of sun for solar collectors/solar panels.
