**Mathematics Concepts:**

Counting numbers within 100

Represent a group of objects with a written number

Make comparisons between quantities- greater than, less than, more, fewer

**Students will work to investigate how many of a given object they can grab and work to count and represent this quantity with a model and written number. Students will also make comparisons between amounts and work to order quantities. **

**Time Needed:** This lesson will span over multiple days of teaching

**Part 1: **The teacher will model how to estimate, count and represent a quantity of styrofoam peanuts that are grabbed with one hand. Students will then have time to work to complete the same investigation themselves.

**Part 2:** Students will use their representations from the previous day to match their amount on a number path and make comparisons between numbers.
