Overview

Science Content:

Soil is the topmost layer of the Earth's surface and it is vital to the health and well-being of all living things. Most of our food, clothing, medicine and other materials we make come directly or indirectly from soil. Soil is comprised of both biotic (living) and abiotic (non-living) components functioning as an ecosystem.

Estimated Time: 1-2 class periods

Science Tasks with Otis and Flask are designed to help 3rd to 5th grade students revisit and build upon critical science concepts. These centers within the program complement your existing curriculum as lead-ins or follow ups to the science topics.

During this lesson, students discover the composition of soil by investigating its four components and reading information.
